I shot this on a cloudy, overcast, and generally rainy day. While most people think this is a horrible time to shoot, I revel it in. While the low light can be a challenge for the f-stop, I find that, with a bit of practice and ingenuity, you can get just about anything you’d like. I originally set out with some of my strobes for this shoot, but decided against it when I remembered how skiddish it can make the horses who aren’t used to it.

So, without my trusty strobes, I sloshed through the mud and puddles to bribe the horses with fresh grass long enough to get some good exposures. I have long loved the noses of horses, so I was determined to get this shot with the old stones in the background.

As for post production, little was needed aside from the general contrast/brightness levels.
